01 — The Challenge
Raising the Bar is Diageo's global campaign, and it came to India after lockdown to help partner restaurants and bars make a smooth comeback. Diageo already had 100+ partner venues.
What it needed was local awareness of those venues, and of what Diageo was doing to support them.
02 — The Insight
The campaign premise was Diageo's. Our contribution was matching it to what LBB already did well: local recommendations.
People came to LBB to decide where to go, so the most useful thing we could do for a venue coming back from lockdown was put it in front of people making that decision.
03 — The Strategic Move
Make the venues the content, then scale what worked.
Edition one tested the approach: recommend the bars, invite people to remember them, and go live from inside them. Once it had beaten every commitment, edition two turned the approach into a programme of four video formats, each showing the venues from a different angle.
04 — The Idea
Edition 1 — prove the approach: city-by-city guides to favourite bars, a contest inviting people to share a memory from their local bar, and Instagram Lives with LBB Insiders from partner venues.
Edition 2 — scale it into a programme of four video formats, each giving partner venues a different kind of spotlight: an owner series on the people behind the restaurants and bars; Instagram Lives broadcast from the venues with a local influencer in each city; review and experience videos shot and edited with influencers; and cocktail videos with select bartenders making drinks, with a short "know your bartender" angle.
05 — The impact
- 100M+
- Impressions (Edition 2)
- 40M+
- Video views (Edition 2)
- 5.6M+
- Social impressions (Edition 1)
- ~950K
- Page views (Edition 1)
Edition 1 also drew ~159K views on live sessions from partner bars and surpassed every promised deliverable. Edition 2 delivered 100 videos across 10 cities with 55 influencers on an INR 10 Mn budget. Diageo renewed for a second edition with a significantly larger budget, and the success of edition two opened the door to campaigns for other Diageo brands, including Singleton, and further renewed campaigns with Diageo's team.
06 — My Role
I conceived and pitched both editions, closed them with LBB's sales team, and led delivery. That meant managing cross-functional teams across creative, media and operations.
On edition two I was project lead, managing a total of over 30 partners across internal and external teams.
Diageo owned the global campaign and the partner-venue network. LBB Insiders, influencers and bartenders in each city appeared in the content. LBB's content, video and social teams produced and distributed it.
07 — How it came to life
- Execution
- Edition 1: "favourite bars" guides across 10 cities and a bar-memory contest across 8 cities. Edition 2: an INR 10 Mn budget across 10 cities.
- Channels
- Facebook and Instagram posts and Stories in every city, plus banner ads on LBB. Edition 2 distributed across social, influencer, video, content and performance marketing.
- Partnerships
- 55 influencers across ten markets, plus LBB Insiders, partner venue owners and bartenders. Over 30 internal and external partners managed on edition two.
- Content
- 100 videos covering individual restaurants, bars and pubs, built around four formats: owner series, Instagram Lives, review and experience films, and cocktail videos.
- Experience
- 11 Instagram Lives from partner bars in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Jaipur.
08 — Why it mattered
The first campaign's job was to earn the second. Edition one proved that recommending venues worked, and beating every commitment turned that proof into a larger programme and a much bigger budget. Edition two then paved the way for campaigns from other Diageo brands, including Singleton, and further renewals with the same team.
